With our new backpacks and camping gear, we decided to try a 6 mile section of the Trans Catalina Trail. Leading from Two Harbors to Little Harbor campground, this trail climbs to the peaks and stays on the ridges across Catalina Island, then descends into the campground which is situated on a small, isolated cove.
Our timing might have been a mistake, it turned out to be the hottest day of the year. The first climb out of Two Harbors was already getting hot.
Herds of buffalo roaming around the island, we came across quite a few.
The sun was a little too much for some of us. Nini had to take shelter under a rock.
Starting to descend towards camp, and the trail was blocked by a bison. He seemed harmless enough, but we were careful as we crossed his path just in case.
Camp! Just a little way to go.
We rented kayaks, which were waiting us at camp when we arrived.
Schools of stingrays beneath our kayaks.
This was a beautiful moment. Sitting on the calm ocean watching the sun go down. The pictures can't do it justice.
We made it back to shore and up onto the cliff for the final moment of the sun going down.
Some morning meditation.
A bison decided to wander through camp. It's hard to tell if they will become aggressive, so everyone just let him wander without getting in his way.
Because of the extreme heat, we hitched a ride back to Two Harbors on the van shuttle that stops at the campsite.
This is the ferry that takes us back to Long Beach.
Trying not to get seasick!
